John Bolton – A Threat to American Security

John Bolton, the next National Security Adviser to President Trump, has a long history in politics and policy. Unfortunately.

One of the main architects of the disastrous war in Iraq, John Bolton is a foreign policy hawk whose views align closely with President Trump’s ‘America First’ policy of global disengagement. Serving in the George W. Bush administration as Ambassador to the United Nations following a recess appointment, John Bolton continued to double down on pissing the world off. His new promotion has sparked concerns around the world that he will continue to destabilize the global geopolitical ecosystem through excessive use of force as a primary means of achieving diplomatic goals.

To begin with, the National Security Adviser’s job is to provide President Trump with unbiased information and a range of options to deal with security concerns. Security issues may range from the obvious, such as military matters, to the less obvious, such as instability at a local level that will have global repercussions (i.e. Venezuela’s economic situation).

John Bolton is extremely biased and unlikely to provide President Trump with an objective analysis.

What does John Bolton support that makes him such a threat?

Country War?
Iraq Yes
Iran Yes
North Korea Yes
Libya Yes
Syria Yes
Venezuela Maybe

John Bolton supports military intervention with the aforementioned nations, and a very tough approach in dealing with Venezuela. The man still says invading Iraq was the right move.

Surely such a strong proponent of military intervention would have spent time in uniform? Wrong. John Bolton is another chicken hawk.

The man who will be advising President Trump on matters of national security is a right wing ideologue and a warmonger with a proven record of failure. Failure that has cost America thousands of its bravest sons and daughters.

“Walk softly, and carry a big stick.” – Theodore Roosevelt.

I am a firm proponent of peace through power. I believe America needs a bloated military budget to secure global shipping lanes, ensure economic prosperity around the world, and to reduce the likelihood of conflict. If you’re the biggest, toughest kid on the block by a wide margin then people are less inclined to mess with you.

But if you run around beating everyone up until you yourself are bruised, bloody, and tired, then you’re easy to pick off. John Bolton risks alienating our allies and transforming Trump’s ‘America First’ policy into ‘America Alone’. This is a dangerous man to have advising Trump, and hopefully Congress will take a long, hard look at his credentials before approving the appointment.
